Sails
With the upcoming season change, its time I put down some thoughts about the current one i’m in.
Over the past few months, my pace has seemed busier than ever. HOWever, this does not come with complaints. In a fashion I wish I could write as fluidly as my time has seemed to fly, but I feel that my brain/hands just wont do the job. I did notice something tonight though. A slight change in the temperature outside. Which to me, brings more creativity and thought than any single outside force that my God has built. Anyway, tonight I met and discussed the future plans to further our ministry with Heart4Children in Honduras. I got home to our extremely productive “workspace” aka house. I had a rush of thoughts concerning the pace of my life the last couple of months. WIth the stress of finishing and printing a brand new record with 3 of my best friends, the release planning, (10.10.10) and EVERYTHING that holds, I realized that this current state I’m in gives so much light of hope, consequences of affliction, elimination of relations and devotion to passions.
Naturally, my reaction to such thoughts is my favorite form of output from such input: creating… as of lately - thats consisted of time behind a lens and editing suite - but tonight I found it in some music.
I have an ongoing list on my phone titled “inspirations.” This can be anything from song lyrics to scripture. But mainly, its simple things I find fascinating. Most are extremely simple things. Here are few:
Industry, Lined Up Trees, Gregory Peck… you see? No huge correlation. But this is where I come up with a lot of song ideas and names that I make. No, I probably wont title anything I make “Gregory Peck” haha. Great story, great character though. But my most recent addition to the list was this:
Sails.
Something about the way a boat can travel into the wind without underwater propulsion is unreal. Who thought of this? Who decided to try it first? Did THEY think it was going to work? How many times did they try to get it to work? To me, its an extremely complicated yet primitive piece of history.
This song kind of shows that. Simple, but some weird chordings and technical/unnatural sounds mixed with simple voices that sound obviously “produced.” It drags the idea of something simple into something complex. Its a great representation of the summer of 2010 for me. I’m excited to see what comes this fall.
Enjoy the song. And if you want a copy of it, email me at neil@neilsandoz.com and I would love to share with you.
